There are all kinds of dahlias. Some are structurally too perfect, almost mechanically designed, and others are full of movement and excitement, with petals swirling all around. My original photo of this one was lively but a monochromatic hot pink flower needing some help to vary the color enough to make it fun to paint. What do you think? It’s a bit of a visual reversal with hot shadows and cool highlights breaking some basic rules of picture making.
Exhibit Dates: January 17- February 27, 2026

Join me for the opening of the 19th Annual CVG Show, an all media juried art competition for Washington and Oregon artists in Photography/Digital, Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional art.
The Juror, Christian Waguespack, is Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Northwest Art at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, WA. From almost 700 entries he chose which artworks were invited to be included in the show. 132 artworks by 128 Washington and Oregon artists were chosen for this year’s CVG Show. So, I’m honored to be included.
If you can’t make it to Bremerton, you can see the whole show posted online!

April 3rd to 25th in Anacortes… I’m busy this winter painting new works for the Tulip Festival Poster Artists Past and Present exhibit to be held at the Scott Milo Gallery in Anacortes, WA. I had the honor in 2016 to be the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival poster artist and look forward to being in this group show again with 8-10 paintings. Here’s a link to my posts from that time. If you get a chance to visit the tulip fields this spring, you might want to see work of several artists who have been inspired by the region.
