Title: Sprouting Onion
The composition of this onion sprout curving gracefully out of the onion caught my attention. I wanted to let it grow, sacrificing the use of the onion in cooking, just to see it bloom. But much of the joy of painting this was doing the butcher block surface, seeing color in the neutral tones and shadows that harmonized so well with the onion colors but still allowed the onion to shine.
This watercolor is painted on 140# Arches Cold Press paper. It is an original painting, not a print. A Certificate of Authenticity comes with the watercolor signed by Sandy Haight. This painting is unframed but has an archival white mat and backed with archival foam core. It comes wrapped in a clear protective sleeve for protection until it is ready for your custom frame to fit the decor in your home, kitchen or office. (The copyright notice is for the listing only and does not appear on the original artwork). A small giclee print of this painting may be available in this shop! Check it out!

For the past year I've been painting flowers and plant life up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them. A view I call Floralscapes. This painting though, is as much about the butcher block background as it is about the graceful sprouting onion.
I’ve been using watercolor and ink brush line in my illustration work for nearly 20 years, but in a much more controlled and predictable way. My artwork appears on book jackets, ads, posters, logos and packaging all over the country and Canada. If you’d like to see my world of client driven projects, check out my published artwork at http://sandyhaight.com. My Watercolor Life Drawings, Sumi Figure drawings and watercolors can be seen on other sections of this Etsy shop and on my fine art web site at https://sandyhaightfineart.com. I show my work in the Seattle, WA region.
I was honored to be the gold medal winning poster artist for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in 2016 with my watercolor painting of a tulip bouquet.
In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS. The initials now follow my signature on recent watercolor paintings that you can see in the Floralscapes section of this shop.
