Road Trip to Santa Fe!
Last fall I was commissioned to paint 2 original watercolors for a new Cancer Center in Santa Fe, NM. What better excuse for a road trip through Colorado, New Mexico and Utah to take in the fall colors, a few hot springs and some National Parks! I couldn’t make it to the July opening of the new facility, Christus St Vincent Cancer Center, so Gary and I made an adventure out of seeing the art all framed and installed.
The designers were inspired by my painting Sunrise Rose which they discovered on FineArtAmerica.com, but the bigger space in the main waiting room required a much bigger painting.They wanted it painted 64″ x 30″ and a more salmon shade of orange than the original. Stretching the image to this width was a “stretch” for me to believe that I could pull it off….my biggest painting to date! What do you think? I’m posing with my installed art for scale.

The 2nd commissioned painting is a more reasonable size of 30″ square and placed across the same waiting room. It’s a succulent titled Tierra Corazon, with me below. Whichever place you sit in that room gives a view of my artwork, and hopefully helps relieve any tensions of facing cancer treatments.

Not only did the designs call for original art in the public areas, but they made reproductions of 4 other paintings of mine enlarged as prints on stretched canvas for some of the patient hallways. The new building had artworks by many artists and had a printed guide to find the locations of all the pieces throughout the facility. The Patient Coordinator enthusiastically helped us find my art and introduce me to the Executive Director, making me feel honored and appreciated. Here are the pictures from the hallways.

Ripples of Bloom, printed on canvas by FineArtAmerica.com. My orientation was vertical but it works this way too.
As an illustrator I did a lot of work in the “Wellness Industry” with my cheerful brush & ink style. I always hope my work can brighten someone’s spirits no matter what their circumstances, the weather or the political climate. Now as a painter, the subject and beauty of flowers often seems to do the trick whether live in the wild or the garden, cut and arranged for the tabletop, or filling the walls with color!
Thanks for reading. I wish you all well.
Prints and cards of my paintings can be found at some local shops;
Bainbridge Island Museum of Art store on Bainbridge Island.
Spark & Thread on Capitol Hill in Seattle, and Women Painters of WA Gallery in Columbia Tower, Seattle.
Custom sized prints on various substrates can be ordered from FineArtAmerica.com and Saatchiart.com. Or, check out what originals and prints are available directly from me at my Etsy shop.
